Lori La Bey talks with Pete Brierton a first responder with over 40 years of experience in all aspects of emergency care delivery. He continues his career as an EMS educator and federal disaster responder. Pete started in law enforcement in 1983 and has worked various jobs in municipal and county law agencies, patrol, water patrol, and corrections.
In 1984 Pete started as an EMT and volunteer firefighter, during that period he became more interested in the emergency medical side and pursued opportunities that offered additional medical education and licensing. This allowed him to become a career firefighter, along the way he worked in a large urban emergency department, cardiac catheterization laboratories, and helicopter critical care transport.
Since 2009, Pete is a federal first responder working for the National Disaster Medical System responding worldwide to disasters, COVID, and national special security events. His passion is education and he has been an EMS educator since 1987, prior vice president of the Wisconsin EMT association, magazine contributor, and lecturer, and continues teaching EMS at all licensure levels from first responder through critical care paramedic. Pete also teaches for Aurora Healthcare, Froedtert Healthcare, and Gateway Technical College.
We are so lucky to have Pete with us today with his vast experience and insights. I’m really looking forward to this conversation.
